Vermont Hockey Community,

As our hockey community continues to reflect on the growing negative trend in sportsmanship in youth sports, the Vermont State Amateur Hockey Association (VSAHA) believes words alone are not enough to tackle this problem. It requires action and commitment from everyone involved, including coaches, parents, and athletes themselves.

At its regular board of directors meeting on February 7th, the VSAHA Executive Board has taken action to issue supplemental discipline in regards to game misconducts and abusive behavior effective immediately:

Game Misconducts

-       Any game misconducts assessed in the last five (5) minutes of a game; an additional game suspension will automatically be assessed.

Rule 601 Violations

-       Any game misconducts assessed for rule 601(d); a four (4) game suspension will automatically be assessed.

-       Any spectator(s), upon review, is found to be in violation of Rule 601, will be suspended from all games and practices for thirty (30) days and be subjected to a hearing.

It is our responsibility to be role models and to set a good example for all in our youth sports community. As Governor Scott reminded us on Tuesday, it’s never too late to be a better person.

As we enter the final stretch of the season, let us take this opportunity to lead by example and demonstrate the positive impact that good sportsmanship can have. Together, we can create a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all involved.
